Mustache on a Stick

mustaches

Last weekend our wonderful friend Laura had a birthday party with the whimsical theme of Mustaches and Mix Tapes. Each guest was expected to come bearing a music mix for Laura and sporting a false mustache. Simple but genius. The party was a total blast, with the lively guests showcasing every style of false mustache you could imagine, crafted from a wide variety of creative materials (paper, felt, eyeliner, pipe cleaners, etc). Laura even hung some beautiful paper mustaches from her ceiling, creating a fun yet elegant mustache chandelier (seen here). Who knew facial hair could be so inspiring?

Being the crafty girl that I am, I knew I had to come up with a pretty impressive mustache design to compete with Laura's artistic skills. I have also learned from past experiences with theme parties that, no matter how awesome or easy the theme is, there will always be party poopers who come unprepared. So I thought it'd be a good idea to make several mustaches, so that we'd have extras on hand. Then there would be no excuse for people not to participate!

I turned immediately to my most trusted crafting skill, crochet, to see what I could come up with. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that mustache-crocheting is not only quick and easy, but fun and versatile. I was able to come up with designs for three different styles of mustache! I decided to attach them to pieces of stiff wire, so that they could simply be held in front of the face as opposed to attached directly.

What do you guys think? Is there a market out there for false mustaches?

  3. Bravo on your muuustaches.
It seems like mustaches are definitely a trend right now. I recently got an Etsy newsletter dedicated entirely to mustache related items, so the market might be a little saturated right now...but on the other hand none of them were like yours! I think its totally worth a shot.
